Hornøya Island Nature Reserve
Seabirds are the easiest birds to spot in Vardø. Just a
few-minutes boatride from the town centre is Hornøya
island with its many birdnesting areas. Kittiwake, puffins and
seagulls nest here in large numbers (appr. 90.000). Razor bills,
arctic razor bills, cormorant and eider duck can all be observed
here. On the short boat trip to Hornøya island you will see
plenty of birds on their way out from the island or on their
return to the nest. |
